Cultural Responsibility as a Quality Aspect of Tourism Experiences

By discussing Sami culture in relation to tourism, this video problematizes the unrestrained massive commodification of indigenous culture for tourist audiences. The experts interviewed in the video draw special attention to cultural responsibility certification as a means to prevent the objectification and abuse of indigenous culture. In doing so, the “Sápmi Experience Quality Mark” is put in the spotlight as a certification programme aiming to promote tourism companies that are committed to offer genuine cultural experiences by guiding visitors through the way of life, values and traditions of the Sami people.
